I thought I'd do this post for fun, for everyone who enjoys looking at pretty dresses as much as I do. So here it is, my wedding dress runner-ups!

I at first wanted a full-out themed wedding, complete with Lord of the Rings-inspired gown. Then I realized there was no way I could afford one of these dresses. But it's pretty, eh?

My tastes then shifted to more of a medieval/princess look, but again, a look inside the wallet told me that was no-go.

So I thought, "Alright then, I'll just go for a full-out Cinderella-type gown. Those are common enough to be affordable." Unfortunately, I soon discovered that I was a midget too short to pull it off, as the puffy skirts tended to completely overwhelm me.

Then I watched Moulin Rouge and badly wanted the Hindu wedding dress for awhile...until I found out that I was not Nicole Kidman (and I was quite sad about it, too).

Right about now, my tastes managed to get a bit more reasonable. This dress was lovely, but I wasn't crazy about it. And the Alfred Angelo salesgirl was too annoyingly pushy.

I never got to try this on (it was way over my budget anyway), but I love looking at it. Don't you just want to sink into it?!

Beautiful dress, but I had an aversion to all-satin for some reason (I have no idea why still).

My third place dress goes to this one, because it's simply adorable. But the salon wouldn't let me take pictures of it, and it soon faded from my mind, so I figured I didn't like it enough anyway. Their loss!

And now my runner-up. I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOVE this dress. It's gorgeous, and the skirt is everything I wanted. Three problems though: 1) The poofy skirt still didn't do my height any favors, 2) The beading on the bodice irritated my underarms, and 3) It cost twice as much as The Dress. Aha...yeah. So I don't regret my decision, but I still like to look at the gown wistfully every now and then.

And there you have it. My not-so-epic dress saga.

Leaving for Buffalo tomorrow, then to Cleveland. The thought of being away from internet so long FRIGHTENS ME.

As well as the COLD. HOW WILL I SURVIVE?!

Dude, I love that first dress! If I could afford (but who knows? Maybe if by the time I get a boyfriend I can, lol) I would wear it.

I think everyone gets a bit sad when they realize they aren't Nicole Kidman, lol.

Oh, and survive the cold by layering. I live in Michigan and I've had on so many layers and so many blankets it's not even funny! But yes, layers and layers.

Start saving up for it! If I can't have it, then maybe I can live vicariously through someone who can.

I plan to do lots of layering (and even more staying indoors!) so hopefully I'll survive. (I'm from California; we tend to be melodramatic about anything under 70 degrees.)

Oh I know, lol. There's someone else from Cali on my friends list and one day she said she put on boots, extra socks, scarf, hat and gloves for 30 degree whether or something like that. I couldn't stop laughing!

i think you made the right choice with The Dress! there are some gorgeous ones here, but the one you chose is amazing; classy, not too over-the-top but still has it's intricate details; and most importantly, timeless, so you don't look back on wedding pics 10 years from now all 'WTF WAS I THINKING'. my aunt was married in the 80s NO WAIT IT WAS 90s IT JUST LOOKED LIKE AN 80S DRESS WITH THE SHOULDER PADS AND EXCESSIVE LACE and good lord her wedding dress lololol.

also, oh my god that model in the last pic has a tiny waist O__O

Thank you! It makes me feel much better that people like The Dress. I went shopping to a couple of dingy little stores that still had those shoulder-pad-lacy-concoction dresses and loled a good deal over them. I think the store owners might've been offended.

I'm on it! I'll distract them, and you stuff it under your shirt and run to the car!

That first one is gorgeous, but probably kind of impractical.

I also love the Hindu one.

Yeah...but what wedding dresses are practical! Haha...most of them are impossible to move around in.

If you knew someone who could sew some of those could probably be a bigger possibility at a cheaper cost.

I dunno.

The thought occurred to me, but I don't really know anyone besides the people who make my sister's skating outfits.

OMG! The dress below the Hindu dress...that is almost identical to the dress that was my runner-up (it might even be the same...did it have lots of crystals on it?). I didn't buy it because they wouldn't ship it to Arizona (I was shopping at a boutique in Florida) without shipping it to Florida first and then charging me again to ship it to Arizona. Fsh.

Still, yay dress! Now, hair!

It's a gorgeous dress! Pretty ridiculous that they wouldn't ship it to you, though. Talk about not knowing how to keep business.

I had the same reaction when I saw Moulin Rouge, lol. Anyway, having seen all your options, I think you made a good choice. Have fun in Cleveland!

Thanks! Yeah, I wish I looked like Nicole Kidman, haha.

I will! Can you believe I'm nervous about it already?

I found the dress over at Rivendell Bridal ( There are more pictures of it there, as long as some real brides wearing it in different colors.
