WTF NO

Scottish actor Gerard Butler is the favourite to star in the West End sequel to The Phantom Of The Opera.

The 300 star impressed creator Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber with his performance as the Phantom in the 2004 film of the same name - and the theatre impresario now wants Butler to reprise the famous role for his forthcoming stage sequel.

Lloyd Webber tells British newspaper the Daily Express. "I have got my own new show coming on next year, which is my sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, which I think is going to be called Phantom: Once Upon Another Time. That will come on in November next year, if everything goes well."

WHAT NO SOMEONE STOP ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. HE'S GONE GEORGE LUCAS-INSANE. PHANTOM SEQUEL?!? WTF?!? GERARD BUTLER EVER OPENING HIS MOUTH AND SINGING AGAIN?!? NO! JUST NO.

I wasn't even aware Broadway does sequels. I mean, Cats II: The Return of Mr. Mistoffelees or something doesn't sound very artsy because its not "new." Its like, you do a sequel either to exploit an already successful franchise or because you can't think of anything new. I think the former works only for movies, and the latter just makes you look bad.

That said....if its done properly....I might consider seeing it.

I think ALW is suffering from George Lucas Syndrome. They once made something good a long time ago, and now they're depressed because they can't come up with anything as good, so they're going back to rehash their good thing.

And I'd be curious to at least hear the music, if it weren't for Gerard Butler's awful singing.

Say what?! How is that even possible? This is like bad fanfic. D:

Like?! You mean, it IS bad fanfic.

Yeah... I know. It's just enough to make you scream.

We can really start screaming if they get David Archuleta to play the kid.

It's based on The Phantom of Manhattan - that alone tells you how wrong this is.

Just wait until he decides to do a prequel.

W...T...F...

DID ALW SEE THE SAME MOVIE WE ALL DID? DOES HE NOT REMEMBER GERRY'S VOICE BEING ELECTRONICALLY ENHANCED TO MAKE IT HALF-WAY LISTEN-ABLE?!

ARCHIE ICON SOMEWHAT AGREES

I'm beginning to think ALW is just getting really old, and thus senile and deaf. At least, I hope he is, because there's no other rational explanation.

And this is different from theatre... how?!

[identity profile] phantomsangel.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about how Gerry's voice had to be looped in "The Music of the Night" because he couldn't sustain the high notes.

His pitch also had to be readjusted on his songs.

I will admit, I am not a musical aficionado and I have not seen the Phantom performed, but I liked the movie. Don't throw anything, I am just not that musical. :D
